Al Muhajer , meaning the immigrant , is an adaptation of George Shabadas play The Immigrant of Brisbane. The play delves deeply into the human agony which accompanied the Palestinians experience of immigration and experience that deserves to be described as very unique . The play , which considers death as a major player, personalizes death and puts it on stage. It uses it as a symbol to criticize the social structure and the social concepts which lead to the domination of greed and avidity amongst human beings.
The people of Deir Al Zeitoon in the play are the ones who have to go on suffering whether due to their misfortune or to a coincidence. Their agony is presented in a sarcastic and astonishing way leading one to conclude that this suffering could only come to an end when the Earth stops rotating.
