What could happen, when people spend decades living together and get to know each other so well, that nothing new they can tell each other?
One way or another out of this existential monotony, out of their isolation, is what both old people in Ionesco’s Theater piece are looking for.
And they find this way out in the game, in the imagination of visitors who bring change and variety into their life.
Longings and the unfulfilled remained wish to bring about a long lasting something, something more important than one’s own absurd existence, the dreams of how life could have been, mourning after missed chances, all that are essential components of the human existence irrespective of cultural environment and age.
In order to escape from one’s own mediocrity, the only choice the couple got finally:
Suicide, which is not their end, but the greatest possible act of self-determination, the beginning of something new, the crossing into another, perhaps happier world.
